BCESD3 and Manvel Fire Department Help Rededicate James H. "Red" Duke Elementary

On Monday, BCESD3 and the Manvel Fire Department were proud to participate in the rededication ceremony for James H. “Red” Duke Elementary!

The morning was especially meaningful as the school celebrated the legacy of Dr. James H. “Red” Duke Jr., whose passion for education and service left a lasting impact on generations of Texans. Dr. Duke was instrumental in establishing the Memorial Hermann Life Flight program in 1976, helping transform emergency medical care throughout the region. James H. “Red” Duke Elementary was originally dedicated and named in his honor in September 2014, recognizing his extraordinary contributions to medicine, education, and the community.

This year also marks Memorial Hermann Life Flight’s 50th Anniversary, making today’s celebration an especially fitting tribute to Dr. Duke’s vision. Alvin ISD and Memorial Hermann welcomed an excited crowd of students who were eager to meet the Life Flight crew, ask questions, and get an up-close look at the helicopter.

BCESD3 EMS was on site with an ambulance for students to explore and learn more about emergency medical services, while our partners at the Manvel Fire Department brought a fire truck—which, as always, was a big hit!

We are grateful to Alvin ISD and Memorial Hermann Life Flight for including us in such a memorable morning. Opportunities like this allow our first responders to connect with young members of our community while introducing students to the people, equipment, and teamwork behind emergency response.

Congratulations to James H. “Red” Duke Elementary on its rededication and to Memorial Hermann Life Flight on 50 years of lifesaving service!  See less.
