That bargain charging cable may save a few dollars, but your safety is worth more.


During Fire Prevention Week, remember to use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire, while cheap or off-brand chargers may not meet important safety standards. NFPA


Before you plug in:

  • Use the correct charger for your device.
  • Replace damaged or frayed cords.
  • Charge on a hard, flat surface—not a bed, couch, or pillow.
  • Unplug your device once it is fully charged.
